1. Introduction

DeepReading Companion ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that provides AI-powered webpage summarization and keyword exploration. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.

2. Data We Collect

2.1 Page Content (Temporary)

When you click the Extension icon, we read the text content of the currently active webpage. This text is sent to a third-party AI service (currently via OpenRouter) to generate summaries and keyword insights. We do not store this text on our servers.

2.2 Anonymous Usage Analytics

We collect anonymous, non-personally-identifiable usage events (e.g., "summary requested", "keyword clicked") to understand how the Extension is used and to improve the product. These events include:

Extension name and event type
A randomly generated anonymous user ID (not linked to your identity)
Timestamp of the event

We do not collect page URLs, page titles, page content, browsing history, cookies, or any personal information in analytics events.

2.3 Local Storage

The Extension uses Chrome's local storage to save your preferences (e.g., language setting). This data never leaves your device.

3. Third-Party Services

The Extension sends webpage text to OpenRouter for AI processing. OpenRouter then routes requests to upstream model providers (e.g., Google, DeepSeek). Please refer to OpenRouter's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle data.

4. Data We Do NOT Collect

Browsing history
Cookies or authentication tokens
Personal information (name, email, address, etc.)
Page URLs or page titles
Passwords or form data

5. Data Retention

Page text sent to the AI service is processed in real time and is not stored by us. Anonymous analytics data is retained for up to 12 months and then deleted.

6. Your Rights

You can disable the Extension at any time from chrome://extensions. Uninstalling the Extension removes all locally stored data. If you wish to request deletion of your anonymous analytics data, please contact us.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes through the Extension or on this page.
