Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 20, 2026
1. Introduction
DarkForce ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that provides smart dark mode for every website. It uses pure CSS injection — no DOM access, no page content reading. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.
2. Data We Collect
2.1 Local Storage
The Extension uses Chrome's local storage to save your per-site settings (brightness, contrast, warmth, exclusion list). This data never leaves your device.
2.2 Anonymous Usage Analytics
We collect anonymous, non-personally-identifiable usage events (e.g., "dark mode enabled", "site excluded") to understand how the Extension is used and to improve the product. These events include:
- Event name (e.g., "dark_mode_toggled")
- A randomly generated anonymous user ID (not linked to your identity)
- Timezone (for aggregate usage pattern analysis)
2.3 CSS Injection
DarkForce applies dark mode via CSS filters injected into pages. No page content, DOM elements, or text is read or transmitted. All processing happens locally in your browser.
3. Data We Do NOT Collect
- Browsing history or page URLs
- Page content or DOM structure
- Personal information (name, email, address, etc.)
- Passwords or form data
- Cookies or authentication tokens
4. Data Retention
All settings are stored locally on your device. Anonymous analytics data is retained for up to 12 months and then deleted.
5. Your Rights
You can disable the Extension at any time from chrome://extensions.
Uninstalling the Extension removes all locally stored data. If you wish to request
deletion of your anonymous analytics data, please contact us.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes through the Extension or on this page.
7. Contact
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, please reach out through the contact information provided on the Chrome Web Store listing page.
